My journey into art has been a long time coming. Having always had a passion for art and creating things, I regretted never having the opportunity to pursue this when younger. As many of my generation, I was pushed to follow a more academic path and found that working full time and raising a family didn't afford me much time to follow other dreams. So what changed? This year, I was made redundant from a job I loved and instead of jumping straight into another role, I took some time out to re-evaluate my life and ask myself what makes me happy. My career had over the years naturally shifted to following a more creative side, working with architects and interior designers and this last role for a British manufacturer of luxury home goods. It was as if suddenly everything aligned and I realised that this was now my time. I have been busy in my studio ever since and loving every second.
I'm still discovering my own style, but this naturally seems to be evolving and following a path of abstract expression. I love the flowing threads of texture that can be created with a palette knife and then watching as they come together with my paint colour choices to express the emotion and feelings inspired by my own poetry.
The threads of texture being a literal representation of the invisible threads that I feel connect us all. They can be the threads of thoughts that run through your mind, sometimes overwhelming us, they can be the threads of love that still connect us to those we have lost or just the threads of shared experience or feelings.
For me, to know that someone feels a connection to a piece of art I have created and wants it for their home will bring me immense joy and a sense of legacy x
